Day 12 was the day for new greats to rise and history to be made.
It included the women’s 200m final and the men’s 200m semi-finals on the athletics track along with action on the hockey pitches where Great Britain women’s set up a final with the Netherlands on Friday.
The day also featured the 5000-metre heats with Mo Farah gunning for another gold medal in one of the longer distances on the track.
Day 12 saw the USA remain top of the medal table and Great Britain hold off China to remain in second place.

Joy for Thompson
It was a special moment in the women’s 200 metre final where Elaine Thompson took gold for Jamaica but didn’t even realise for a few moments that she had clinched gold.
Dafne Schippers took silver for the Netherlands whilst the USA finished third with Tori Bowie.
Dina Asher-Smith finished fifth for Team GB.
Joy for Bolt, Despair for Gatlin, and GB make it
There was more joy for Usain Bolt as he breezed into the finals of the men’s 200m whilst GB’s Adam Gemili came through in third in the same semi-final.
He made it through with a time of 20.20 which he was seemingly disappointed with.
Justin Gatlin missed out on the final after finishing third in his semi final.

Team GB women's side make the final
Great Britain’s women’s hockey team continued their unbeaten form as they made the final after a convincing victory over New Zealand winning 3-0.
They set up a tie with the Netherlands in Friday’s final.
Farah makes 5000m final
A slight trip towards the end of the 5000m heat didn’t deter Mo Farah as he continues his quest for another Olympic double gold.
Neymar breaks Olympic football record
Brazil showed they meant business as they comfortably strolled into the men’s football Olympic gold final as they battered Honduras.
Neymar starred as he broke an Olympic record netting a goal after only 15 seconds.
They will face Germany in the final who beat Nigeria 2-0 in their semi final.
USA clean sweep in hurdles
It was a whitewash on the medals front for the USA as they took Gold, Silver and Bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Brianna Rollins took gold with a time of 12.48 seconds. Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin completed the American dominance.
GB’s Cindy Ofili and Tiffany Porter both missed out on the medals finishing fourth and seventh respectively.
Chinese dominance
The Chinese men’s table tennis team secured gold in a victory over Japan.
USA 1-2 in the Long Jump
Tianna Bartoletta took gold in the women’s long jump with teammate Brittney Reese taking silver as the USA secured a front two lockout.
